Bio
Marceline Louise Hempel Marcy (Marceline) Hempel was born to Opal and Steve Hempel in Dennison, Texas, on October 14, 1925. The family moved to Dallas when Marcy was a young child, and from the age of 6 was raised by her Aunt Duddle. She was confirmed at First United Lutheran Church in Highland Park in 1938, and Marcy graduated from Forest Avenue High School in June, 1943. That summer she trained to become a key punch operator at IBM in Dallas, and in August, 1943, began a career with Southwest Life Insurance Company that spanned 42 years. She then was employed as a manager by Kimberly Clark for the next 10 years. Marcy moved to Coppell, Texas, in 1978, and during her residency there was active in city affairs, serving on various committees and working elections. She was a charter member of Rejoice Lutheran Church, Coppell, and in her retirement worked there as Evangelism Secretary. She was involved in many activities and committees, and she organized the church Quilting Group over 20 years ago and remained active, helping to sew quilts for Lutheran World Relief until her death. In earlier days Marcy was a volunteer with the USO, arranging for soldiers to be bused to Sherman, TX, for dances, and also coordinating buses for transporting young ladies to visit Ft. Hood for dances there with the enlisted men. Marcy loved to travel and visited many parts of the world, including Europe, Hong Kong, China, Thailand plus the Caribbean. She was one of the first group of travelers from the United States to visit Japan after WWII. Marcy was a lady with a very kind and generous heart, always interested in people and wanting to serve their needs. In her later years, one could find her at home in her easy chair crocheting hats and prayer shawls to be given away. Marcy was strong in her faith and assured by the sacrifice and resurrection of her Lord that she, too, has been welcomed into her heavenly home. She passed away on June 2, 2020 She is survived by her cousins, LIVING; great cousin LIVING, and great-great cousins, LIVING; sister, Joyce (Ted) O'Toole of Houston; nephew, LIVING; and other cousins and relatives. Marcy was predeceased by her parents and brother, Steve (Bud) Hempel. The memorial service for Marceline Hempel will be at 10am, Monday, July 27, at Rejoice Lutheran Church, 532 E Sandy Lake Rd, Coppell. Interment immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery, Dallas.
