Bio

Charlene Hranicky Marek, 85, passed away on January 27, 2023. She was born February 10, 1937 in Wallis, Texas to Lidge and Martha Hranicky. After graduating from Wallis High School, she attended Wharton County Junior College and then transferred to the University of Texas, graduating with a Bachelor's in Education. After graduation, she married Adolph Marek, also of Wallis, and started her teaching career at Sealy High School. Her growing family made it necessary to step away from teaching to raise her family but her desire to teach never faded. She taught CCD classes at Guardian Angel Catholic Church for many years. She also held numerous long-term substitute teaching assignments at Brazos High School. When her dear parents' health started declining, she was their tireless caregiver, allowing them to live out their lives at home. It also must be said that many a cat and dog lived near opulent lives because she would not allow them to be homeless strays. Her love of antiques drove her to open Third Generation Antiques located in what was once her granddad's grocery store in downtown Wallis. Sharing stories with customers was her favorite pastime, even if you were not making a purchase. Charlene is survived by her children, Marchell, Joseph, and Franklin; daughter and son-in-laws, Amanda Lea and Michael Rosenblatt; and granddaughter, Makinzey Rosenblatt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Natalie Marek; and sister and brother-in-law, Hattie and Robert Stepczyk. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 5518 Demel Street, Wallis, Texas 77483, followed by a rosary at 10:30 AM and a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Natalie Marek Scholarship Fund at Wallis State Bank which benefits deserving students graduating from Brazos High School.
