Bio

Mary Jan Cardwell, 81, of Gainesville, TX passed away on January 21st, 2023, at her home in Gainesville. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Nelson Grove Cemetery in Woodbine, Texas with Rev. Darlene Conner officiating. There will be a visitation held on Friday, January 27th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel, 1204 E. California Street, Gainesville. Mary Jan was born on February 14, 1941, to John Wesley and Cora Mitchell Smith in McKinney, TX. She married Harold Cardwell on January 17, 1958 in Dallas, TX and were happily married until his passing in 2002. Mary Jan worked at Wal-Mart as a checker for 20 years. She loved going fishing and crocheting and spending time with her family. Mary Jan also loved going to Taco Casa and enjoyed being around people. Mary was also a member of Christian Temple Church for many years. She is survived by her daughter Linda and husband Coy Richardson of Gainesville; sons Terry and Ronald Cardwell both of Gainesville; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mary Jan is preceded in death by her husband Harold Cardwell; her parents; her sons, Johnny & Jackie Cardwell as well as her 9 siblings.
