Bio
The Rev. Julie M. March died on Friday, January 27, 2023, at age 78. Julie was born in 1944 and raised in Springfield, MO. She attended Greenwood and received her B.A. and M.A. degrees in History from Southwest Missouri State University (now MSU). Julie was an Adjunct Instructor of American and Black History at MSU and the Curator of the History Museum for Springfield-Greene County for close to 20 years. During these years she co-edited "Crossroads at the Spring, A Pictorial History of Springfield, Missouri" (1997), was the 2000 Governor's Humanities Award Recipient – Excellence in Community Heritage, and received the MSU History Alumni Award for 2008. Julie moved from these endeavors to answer God's call to ministry. Being active at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church during these years, she became involved in studying and leading classes and retreats in contemplative prayer and spirituality. This led her to studies at St. Meinrad School of Theology and ultimately to Eden Theological Seminary where she earned her M.Div. degree. Julie then received a call to serve as the Minister of Equipping at Trinity Presbyterian Church in University City, MO, in 2006, and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Julie met her late husband, the Rev. Dr. Curtis A. March, while pursuing her undergraduate degree. They married in 1972 and joined their families with a total of six children between them. Julie and Curt's love and study of history led to their penchant for travel around America, Canada, England, France, Poland, Italy, and Scotland. In 1976, Curt and Julie participated in a pastoral exchange in Scotland. Later, following his death in 2009, Julie returned to Scotland and volunteered to serve at the Iona Abbey located on the island of Iona, off the West Coast of Scotland for several weeks. Following a confirmation/diagnosis of Early Onset Alzheimer's in 2014, Julie returned to Springfield, MO. She joined the community at The Fremont through her progression from Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care. Since last October, St. Croix Hospice was an added blessing to her and to her caregivers and family. Her parents, Dr. John W. and Mary Ellen Likins Hammon; her brother, Dr. John W. Hammon; and her husband, Curtis A. March, preceded Julie in death. She is survived by her children, David K. March, Elizabeth D. March, Rebecca L. and Steve Kornacki, David C. March and Janet Just, Susan C. and Rick Uffmann, Captain Richard A. and Marie March; her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Greg and Amanda Uffmann Hazleton, John and Katie Uffmann Tan (Jett, Penelope), Will and Jess Uffmann (Liam, Bailey), Shane and Tabitha March Nichols, Erica March.
