MITCHELL - Nina A. Scofield, age 88, of Mitchell, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Her funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m., at the Jones Mortuary Chapel in Mitchell, with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at the Mitchell Valley Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be directed to the Mitchell United Methodist Church or to the Mitchell Rescue Squad. Friends who wish may call at the Jones Mortuary, Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Her obituary may be viewed online at www.jones-mortuary.com where online condolences may be left for the family. Nina was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Valley County, Neb., to Ray and Mabel (Burson) Garner. She grew up and received her education in the Ord, Neb., area and following school she worked in Grand Island, Neb. On Jan. 22, 1961, she married Willis Scofield in Ord. The couple made their home in Mitchell, and for over fifteen years, Nina worked at the Mitchell Bakery until it closed in the mid-1970's. She has lived in Mitchell since. Nina was a member of the Mitchell United Methodist Church. She is survived by her stepchildren, Irvan and wife Carolyn Scofield of Broken Bow, Neb., and Iris Kephart and friend Bruce Wynne of Mitchell; son-in-law, Arthur Carpenter of Gibbon, Neb.; brother-in-law, Earl Wahl of Midland, Mich.; seven step-grandchildren; numerous step-great, step-great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many close and dear friends. Her husband, Willis; stepdaughter, Barbara Carpenter; sisters, Ruth Foster and Opal Wahl; brother, Audrey Garner; and two step-grandchildren preceded her in death.
