Son of James Franklin Allred and Jennie Mc Kenzie Husband of Margaret Lindsey Camp VERNAL - James Martin Allred, 88, Ashley Valley pioneer died Thursday at 4 a.m. (30 Apr 1953) at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Archie Hicks, 528 2nd East, Salt Lake City, of causes incident to age. Mr. Allred was born March 30, 1865, in Salt lake City where he spent his childhood. He was a son of James Franklin and Jennie McKenzie Allred, and was the last survivor of their 10 sons and daughters. On April 6, 1887, he married Margaret L. Camp in Grand Junction, Colo., the marriage later being solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints. The couple were recently honored at a family reunion on their 66th wedding anniversary at which 90 members of their family were present. Following their marriage the couple lived in Provo and to Vernal where they helped pioneer Ashley Valley. They had recently moved to Salt Lake City. Mr. Allred was an active member of the church, having served as a ward teacher in Naples Ward and as a member of the Uintah Stake Mutual Improvement Assn. Superintendency. He was a high priest in Provo Fourth Ward at the time of his death. Surviving in addition to his widow, are eight of his 13 sons and daughters. They include six sons, Ernest W. and Frank B. Allred, Tooele; Floyd Allred, Pocatello, Ida.; Ralph Allred, Vernal; Alva Allred, Salt Lake City; Weldon Allred, Craig, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. William (May) Griffie, Grantsville, and Mrs. Archie (Ruby) Hicks, Salt Lake City; 50 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Vernal Memorial park, Bishop J. Ross Merrill of Naples Ward will officiate. Friends may call at the home of Ralph Allred, Glines, Saturday from noon until time of the services. The family requests no flowers.
