Dottie Furr passed away on Oct. 9, 2015. Dottie was born to Lula Bell "Mama" Hardy and Robert Morgan "Big Daddy" Hardy in Monroeville, AL. She spent her childhood in Lindsey's Mill, AL. Lindsay's Mill was an old timber and logging area on the Conecuh River just before it becomes the Escambia River. At different times during her life, Dottie lived in Santa Anna, CA, Marine Corps Air Station, Barbers Point, HI, Jacksonville, FL, Cherry Point, NC, Virginia Beach, VA, Mt. Vernon, IN and Pensacola, FL. For over the past forty-five years she has lived in the Avalon Beach area in Milton, FL. She had strong military influences most of her life, having been married to a Colonel in the Marine Corps and later a Chief in the Navy. She knew several well known WWII aviators such as Pappy Boyington and Marion Karl. During her younger hears she worked at Chemstrand, as a dental assistant for Kermit Adkins, Sr., DDS, and later worked in marketing while the whole time being a wife and mother to four children. Dottie was busy with sewing and crafts most of her life. She had a shop called "Dottie's Do Dads" in her home in Avalon Beach. Beginning in her nineties, she began making beaded necklaces again and gave hundreds of necklaces to the residents of several nursing homes in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties as well as to the Council on Aging. Dottie loved to see the joy on the faces of the residents at these nursing homes as she handed them a necklace. Besides being preceded in death by her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by: her daughter and son-in-law Barbara Lou and James Harold Scott; her brother, Milton O. Hardy of Pensacola; her sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Leahman Barnes of Pensacola; and her brother and sister-in-law Robert Burns and Phyllis Hardy of Pensacola. Dottie will be cremated and later buried at NAS Barrancas Cemetery. Instead of a funeral or memorial service, Dottie wanted all of her family and friends to simply tip a glass of bubbly to toast and celebrate the full and wonderful life that she lived. Family-Funeral & Cremation is handling arrangements.
