Citizen of Republic of Texas William Crain Sparks, son of Richard and Mildred Crain Sparks, was born June 14, 1798, in Hardeman County, Tennessee. He married (1) Sarah Reed, and (2) Mrs. Jane Alexander Skelton, on Sept. 4, 1837. He was Colonel of a Regiment of State Troops. He was in Nacogdoches County by 1832, and on Jan. 17, 1836, he joined the Ranger Company of Col. Sterling C. Robertson. He was a member of the House of Representatives from Nacogdoches in the 7th Congress of the Republic.
