Peggy passed away peacefully December 31, 2022 in The Woodlands, Texas surrounded by her family. She was born August 30, 1933 to Peter Leopold and Annie Malish Elzner at Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was raised in Taft, Texas, on a farm, and completed high school there in 1952. On September 5, 1953, at age 20, she married Steve M. Tepera at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. Together they had four children: Debra Jean, Gary Steven, James Matthew and Cynthia Ann. After 25 years of marriage, Steve passed away on December 26, 1978. Peggy, with her dear friend Rosalie Bohuslav, owned and operated a bakery on SPID in Corpus Christi for 20 years before retiring. Nieces, nephews and grandchildren loved the candy flowers she made and kept under the counter. Older cousins and nephews liked kolaches. In 1984 she met Edward Janota. They were married July 6, 1985. Her daughters, Debra and Cynthia passed away in 1995 and 1998, respectively. Between them, she and Edward had five remaining children: Gary Tepera, James Tepera, Ronald Janota, Donna Harkins and William Janota. There are 12 grandchildren: Malise Tepera Sundstrom, Nicholas Payne, Kristen Tepera Muehr, Catherine Tepera Hawkins, Jessica Janota, Jordan Janota, Dustin Tepera, Michael Tepera, Ryan Tepera, Jacob Payne, Dylan Janota and Paul Janota. She also has 9 great-grandchildren with the 10th expected in May 2023. Peggy liked cooking and baking. She loved her Czech heritage and could speak it well. She also loved the Czech songs. Peggy was a life time member of SPJST #72 Corpus Christi, KJZT member, Associate member of KJT, St. James Altar Society and St. James Choir. Peggy was also a charter member of the Czech Heritage Society of Texas, Gonzales Chapter. Peggy leaves behind her children, grandchildren and the great-grandchildren she loved dearly. Visitation will begin Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel in Sinton. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be recited the same evening, 5:30 PM at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 9, 2023, 10:30 AM at The Holy Family Church in Taft. Burial will follow in Lamas Memorial Park Cemetery, Taft.
