Bio

Emma H. Labay of Halletsville, formerly a longtime resident of El Campo, died Feb. 23, 2007 at the age of 88. She was born on Aug. 9, 1918, in Welcome, to the late Adam and Sophie Katch Guthman. She was a sales clerk for Young's Food Market in El Campo for 19 years and also was employed by Self Service Shoes. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Survivors daughters, Patricia Revel of Halletsville, Joanne Kubala of Lockhart; sons, Bennie Labay of Shiner, Kenneth Labay of Angleton; sister Sudie Mae Walker of Pasadena; brother, Leroy Guthman of Lissie; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben Labay; daughter, Linda Marie Labay; an infant son; brother, Harold Guthman; sisters, Leona Miller, Vlasta Gerdson, Regina Wisnieski, Viola Renley, Frances Miller and Menola Kissie. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited 130 p.m. Monday at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will follow at 2 p.m., with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are Shawn Kubala, Michael Labay, Morris Rehn, Joe Schramek, Mike Perez, Justin Labay, Chad Rehn, David Labay. Memorial donations may be made to St. Philip School.
