Elaine J. Bishop, 82, of Grand Island, NE, died Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at CHI Health St. Francis, in Grand Island, the result of a vehicle accident. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Martin L. Egging will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Elaine was born March 1, 1940, in Grand Island, NE. She was the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Ruzicka) Janky. She grew up in Chapman on a farm attending District 28 until eighth grade, Central City High School for two years and then graduated from Grand Island Central Catholic in 1958. She continued her education at St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island graduating in 1961. Elaine married Eugene Bishop on September 30, 1961, in Grand Island, NE. The couple made their home in Grand Island until moving to their farm north of town. Elaine was a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Medical Center. Elaine had a love for music and was proficient in many instruments. She shared her talent and love for music as an organ/piano accompanist and vocalist for many years, at Blessed Sacrament, St. Leo's Catholic Church, and St. Mary's Cathedral, all in Grand Island. Elaine also worked as a Tax Consultant along with her husband at The Bishop Company. Mr. Bishop died December 30, 2020. Elaine loved all animals and often times her nursing skills showed when caring for them. She had a passion for thoroughbred horse racing, owning several horses with both her husband Eugene and her mother Helen. Elaine was also an avid basketball fan and enjoyed watching and rooting for the Huskers as well as any NBA game. Elaine will be missed by her son, Brad (Nancy) Bishop of Grand Island, NE Daughters, Joni (Marty) Winters of Lincoln, NE Rhonda Dodson of Sedona, AZ Jerolyn (Bryce) Juedes of Lincoln, NE Janet Jurado of Lincoln, NE Others left to cherish her memory include her eleven grandchildren. Brothers, Ronald Janky David Janky Robert Janky Paul (Nancy) Janky Mark (Leslie) Janky Joseph (Susan) Janky John (Debra) Janky Sisters, Joyce (Marlin) Sekutera Marlene Bolen Judy Hansen, Barbara Ruhe Mary (Kevin) Williamson Michelle (Nicholas) Petersen Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, sister Karen Roberts, sister-in-law, Jean Janky, brothers-in-law Joe Bolen, Mark Hansen, and Thomas Wensel. --------------------------------------------------------- A rural Hall County resident was killed Wednesday when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle north of Grand Island. Around 4:50 p.m., Hall County sheriff's deputies were called to U.S. Highway 281 and Chapman Road to investigate a crash with injuries. A preliminary investigation found that Elaine Bishop, 82, was westbound on Chapman Road when her vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at the Highway 281 intersection and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a teenage girl. The Hall County Sheriff's Office said Bishop was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
