Rachel Elvira Neale Wooters July 5, 1902 - February 12, 1998 Rachel was born in Myrtle, Nebraska on July 5, 1902. She lived in a sod house on a farm north of North Platte, Neb., until her family moved into the town when she was nine years old. She moved to Stapleton Neb., in 1912. In 1987 Rachel wrote about some of her childhood memories. "The first Christmas I can remember, I was about 6 yrs old. My folks didn't have money to buy us gifts and my father had a hired man who was picking corn for us. His name was Bill Bailey, he gave my sister Ruth and me a china head doll each for Christmas, something we had never had and it was so kind of him. I shall never forget it. I was living in the sod house where I was born. "I helped my brother and sister close to me pick cow chips by the wagon load in the fall of the year for winter use. "One day Gayle (Wooters) asked me how old I was when I learned to drive. I was 25 and she said 'What was your hurry!' haha" Rachel recalled meeting Frank at his Aunt's home. "I walked home from school with a friend who lived at Frank's Aunt's home. He asked me if he could come see me and I told him to ask my parents, so he did and he did come to our home." Rachel married Frank Wooters at her parents home in Stapleton on March 3,1920. Rachel remembered, "We had a big snow the day before our wedding and most of our friends had to walk to my folks home…even the minister and his wife." Rachel was 17 and Frank was 22 years old.
