Bio

Albert Leon Moore left this world peacefully in the arms of his daughter Laura on September 25, 2022, at the age of 79. Albert Leon Moore was born December 27, 1942, to Bertha Mae Wicker Moore and Chester Arthur Moore. He grew up on his parent's farm in Dawson, Texas with his siblings James Arthur "Jim", Lynn, and Lena. Living the simple life on the farm meant time in the fields helping his dad pick and harvest cotton, watching his mother make things from scratch, learning how to take care of the daily chores, selling goods around the neighborhood, time at church, and lots of time playing in the streets with his siblings and all the Dawson neighborhood kids. His teenage years were spent hanging out at the soda fountain and cruising in his 67 red chevy, spending time with his family, and leading song at his church. Had it not been for his desire to join the Navy, he would have attended Abilene Christian University to pursue his love for music. Albert served four honorable years in the Navy during the Cold War on board the USS ALLEN M. SUMNER. He traveled around the world picking up some German and collecting memories from places like Sweden and New York for his scrapbook. After the Navy, he spent some time as a Police Officer, EMT, a Mortician for Corley's Funeral Home, and eventually landed his longtime career as a Truckdriver traveling to almost all 50 States in the US of A. He loved his 20 plus years behind the wheel, Storytime on the CB, shifting all the gears, taking in the views, and collecting coins and trinkets from all his travels. Those who knew Al, were most likely met with humor followed by his undying love of COFFEE and his ability to make just about anything. He may have also gifted them with an intricately carved Styrofoam cup, wood burning, tiny animal figures, or any other thing built or carved from wood. Albert met Cheryl "Dawne" at The Piggly Wiggly in 1976. Not long after, they were married and had their first child Jeremy, followed by his daughters Laura and Amanda. His children and wife meant the world to him and vice versa. Long hours on the road away from them were hard on everyone's hearts, but he always found a way to bring pieces of his travels home, every trip bringing home a new spoon or coin collected from a different State. Al and his wife enjoyed raising their kids in the quietness of the country outside of Corsicana and if it weren't for her passing in 2014, they would have celebrated their 45th Anniversary this year. His love for family rippled into the lives and hearts of his siblings, nieces and nephews, and what most believed to be his most treasured, his grandchildren. The song "Amazing Grace," and poem "Desiderata," were the tune and words he lived by and a mirror to his character and grace. Phrases like "shut up," "iscabible," "dum dum," and "I'll trade you vehicles," were a true reflection of his humor and if you ever asked him how he was feeling he would most likely answer "with my fingers." There are very few in the world as patient, gentle, kind, and strong and the people in his life will miss him so very much. He was the best Papaw to his grandchildren, the best Dad and friend to his children, and was a place of peace for everyone. His meditation through art released all the wonderful pieces of him into all he created, then he shared all of that with the people he loved. His Bible pages were marked and worn as reminders to lead and inspire all of us to be better. He loved the beauty of the world, wherever it was, and spent his days soaking it in and sharing it with all of us. Albert was preceded in death by his parents Bertha Mae Wicker Moore and Chester Arthur Moore, bother James Arthur Moore, and wife Cheryl Dawne Moore. He leaves behind his sisters Virginia Lynn Jenkins and Lena Vanpelt and their children; his daughter Sereyna Collett Moore and her son Jaylon Dane Ragland; his son Jeremy Alan Moore; his daughter Laura Nicole Hanel and her two children Heather Nicole Hanel and Gabriel Nicholas Leon; his daughter Amanda Leigh Moore and her four children, Trevor James Moore, Amelia Dawn Moore, Epiphany Williams, and Olin Williams; along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Memorial services at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery are pending at this time. Service times will be updated when they become available. Anyone wanting to share memories and condolences with the family may do so by emailing Albert's daughter, Laura Hanel at [email protected] An address can also be requested via text at 214-600-0895.
