Douglas Ray "Doug" Hawkins 1927 - 2022 VETERAN Douglas Ray Hawkins, 95, passed away peacefully in his home in Lehi, Utah, surrounded by family on December 5, 2022. He was born on April 27, 1927, to Ray Hawkins and Montez Eliza Elliott Hawkins in Provo, Utah. He was the second oldest of four children, with one brother and two sisters. Doug attended Lincoln High School in Orem and was a multi-sport athlete. In his younger years, after serving with the U.S. Merchant Marines, he worked at Geneva Steel and was awarded a journeyman machine rating. His first marriage was to Mary Lou Harding in 1944, at the age of 17. They had three sons together: Jeff, Craig, and Mike. They separated after seven years. He married Carmen Curtis on June 23, 1953, in Reno, Nevada; they spent 35 years together until her death in 1988. They had four children together, Deborah, Kevin, Terry, and Cindy, and traveled around the country and world as a military family. Doug had over 25 years in the military when he retired and spent many years as a sergeant working supply lines. He served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. After the death of Carmen, he married Colleen Christiansen Berry in 1992. They met as co-workers driving school bus for the Alpine School District and spent 30 happy years together gardening, playing golf, working on Colleen's family ranch, and spending time with children and grandchildren. They were also active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Doug served in callings as a home teacher and counselor in the East Stake high priests quorum. Colleen Hawkins passed away of natural causes on September 15, 2022. Doug was an avid golfer all of his life and had a huge amount of love for the game. He played as often as he could, playing almost daily rounds of 18 holes up until about a week before his passing. At Fox Hollow Golf Club in American Fork, Utah, he will be remembered fondly as "The Legend." He is survived by son, Terry Hawkins; daughter, Deborah Johnson; son, Craig Hawkins; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Douglas Ray Hawkins was a man of faith, of service to his country, and of love for his family. His amazing long life and legacy will forever be remembered and carried on by those who knew and loved him.
