Source: Daily Ardmoreite • MARIETTA -- Services for James Franklin Kays, 75, Hobbs, N.M., will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Flanagan-Watts Chapel with the Rev. Tracy Roby officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Kays was born Jan. 2, 1926, at Pilot Point, Texas, to Homer and Francis R. McGuire Kays. He died June 12, 2001, in Hobbs. A retired truck driver, he married Myrtle Marie Sharp on March 4, 1950, in Marietta and had lived in Hobbs since 1963. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars, the Victory, Occupation and Good Conduct medals. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church, VFW and Hobbs Saddle Club. Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, James "Jim," Ackerly, Texas, William "Bill," Jerry, and David, all of Hobbs; a brother, T.J., Thackerville; and 16 grandchildren. Bearers will be Jonathan, Michael, Virgil, Tommy, Bobby and Gary Kays. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
