Services for Anton C. Sladecek (Tony), 87, of Holland, TX will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday January 20 at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger TX with Father Hilario Guajardo presiding. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger. He died Wednesday, January 17 at William Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple, TX. He attended school in Sparks, TX. In order to help the family out financially he did not graduate high school but went to work at K. T. Highway Garage in Holland as an automotive mechanic. He also delivered the Temple Telegram to earn extra money. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1951 at the rank of Corporal until he was honorably discharged in 1953. Tony married Dolores Schindler in Koerth, TX. on October 27, 1956. They made their home in Holland where they shared 61 years of married life together. He is a member of SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, American Legion Post 526, Holland Volunteer Fire Department, SPJST Lodge 80, RVOS Lodge 83, Temple VFW, Knights of Columbus Assembly 1138 and Council 3444. He served as Adjutant and Post Commander for American Legion Post 526, Lodge President for RVOS Lodge 83, Faithful Navigator for K of C Assembly 1138 and worked bingo at SPSIT Lodge 80. After 30 years' service he retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber. He had to keep busy so he went to work for the Rogers Grain Elevator for 10 years and Granger Grain elevator for 2 years. He decided it was time to spend more time in his garden and enjoy the other things he liked to do such as taking care of his pecans, making homemade wine, deer hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Dolores Sladecek, brother Edwin Sladecek and wife Georgia of Houston, son Michael Sladecek, wife Sharlet of Morgans Point Resort, Susan Vecera and husband Daniel of La Grange, Donald Sladecek of Temple, Steven Sladecek of Holland and James Sladecek of Holland. Grandsons Jared Sladecek, Miles Vecera, Regan Vecera, Corbet Abbott and great granddaughter Melynnie Sladecek and many nephews and nieces. Pallbearers are Jared Sladecek, Miles Vecera, Regan Vecera, Corbet Abbott, Joseph Sladecek and Carol Ann Daugherty. Honorary Pallbearers are the American Legion Post 526. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Salado, TX. Memorials can be made to SS Cyril and Methodius Church or a charity of your choice.
