Bio

HERBERT F. McPHERSON was the son of Thomas "T.B." Braxtell McPherson and Mrs. Rebecca Elizabeth (Smith) McPherson. He was the stepson of Mrs. Willie Walker (Smith) McPherson. Death Announcement "McPherson Killed Half Hour Before Hour Of Wedding -- T.B. McPherson received a telegram late Saturday evening announcing the accidental killing of his son at Webster Groves, Missouri that morning. The Dallas News of Sunday contained the following account of the tragedy: "St. Louis, Missouri, March 11 - Exactly thirty days before the date set for his wedding to Miss Venita Blackwell, of St. Louis, Herbert F. McPherson, 23 years old, a lineman, died today. McPherson succumbed to injuries he received today while working on a telephone pole. His home was in Marshall, Texas, and according to the Blackwell family, he had been in St. Louis only three months. Miss Blackwell, who is 18 years old, was prostrated by the death of her fiance. She had been busy for more than a month preparing her trousseau. McPherson grasped a live wire with his bare hand and at the same time placed his foot on an iron brace bar. The insulation on the wire was worn off. For a time, he hung suspended in the air. Then other employees threw a rope at him, which wound around his legs and he was jerked to the ground." An inquest was held Monday morning. Arrangements are being made to bring the body here".
