Dorothy Pauline Vodehnal, 86, of Burwell, Nebraska died November 24, 2022 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2022 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Burwell. Pastor Adam Archer will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Dorothy was born December 16, 1935 at the family ranch in Loup County, Nebraska to Arthur and Myrtle (Dierberger) Scherzberg. She graduated from Loup County High School in 1953. She worked two years on the Scherzberg ranch. She then started to work at the ASCS office. Dorothy married Marvin "Blackie" Vodehnal on November 15, 1959 in Ord, Nebraska. They lived in Burwell. Dorothy retired in 1990 after thirty-five years. She then worked at the Burwell Sale Barn on Fridays until she was 80 years old. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, flowers, pulling weeds and trimming branches, playing the piano and being outdoors. She collected the weather data for the National Weather Service for many years until 2021. She was a volunteer for the blood mobile for many years. Dorothy was a member of the Buzzin Duzzin Club and St. Johns Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Dorcas Society and the ladies Wednesday morning bible study. She liked to go help on the farm as well. Dorothy is survived by two children, Michele and Larry Clements and Mitch Vodehnal all of Burwell, Nebraska. Four grandchildren, Philip and Kristin Clements, Jeff Clements, Amy and Lane Brown and Karly and Cole Baker and two step grandchildren, Ryan and Tina Klimek and Kristin Klimek and fourteen great-grandchildren. One sister, Arlene Brockman of Grand Island, Nebraska. Three brothers-in-law, Duane Reynolds of Litchfield, Nebraska, Ron Vodehnal of Burwell, Nebraska and Bob and Annette Vodehnal of Schuyler, Nebraska. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Shirley Reynolds, one brother, Charles and Cecilia Scherzberg and a brother-in-law, Doug Brockman.
