James Albert Godwin, age 92, of Princeton, Texas passed away February 1, 2010. He was born September 17, 1917 in Princeton, Texas to T.M. and Evie (Holder) Godwin. On March 30, 1946 James married Nora Thorn in Plano, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He received his masters degree in education from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. Mr. Godwin worked his entire career for the Princeton Independent School District where he served as a teacher, coach and principal and was later a Collin County school supervisor. In his honor the Princeton ISD named James A. Godwin Elementary School after him. Mr. Godwin was a past member of the Texas State Teachers Association and a past member of the Princeton Lions Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton where he served as a deacon since 1953, Chairman of the Board of Deacons and a Sunday school teacher. He is survived by **living omitted** Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Princeton High School Auditorium 301 Panther Parkway, Princeton, Texas 75407 with the Rev. Carl Rider officiating. Interment will follow at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Texas. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Friday, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Godwin; one brother and four sisters. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church Princeton, 511 Jefferson Ave., Princeton, Texas 75407 or to Godwin Elementary School, 1019 N. 6th Street, Princeton, Texas 75407.
