The death of Wm. Eberhart, which occurred Jan. 18 at the home of his parents, northwest of Vinland, is a very sad bereavement. For over two months he remained out of school to act as nurse for a sister and brother. The sister died; the brother is now well. William was getting ready to return to Midland College at Atchison, where he expected to graduate next summer, when he was taken sick with the fever and died. By the death of Mr. Eberhart, the family has lost a good and greatly beloved son and brother; the church one of its most active and devoted members; the community one of its best young men. A very large congregation was present at the funeral services held in the Lutheran church. The services were conducted by Rev. Griffeth, of Lawrence, assisted by Rev. D. Scholl. The college was represented by two of his fellow students, who brought beautiful tributes of flowers and spoke in kindness and most affectionate words of his high standing as student of Midland College, where he had hoped to prepare for the Christian ministry. -- Baldwin Ledger, January 25, 1895
