Veteran of World War II. Served with the 36th Division, United States Army, in North Africa, Italy, Southern France, Germany and Austria. Preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, on November 6, 2002; his parents, Alfred and Ella Seiler Schlichting; and brothers, Elroy and Hilmar.
