Mr. Weldon W. Garrett, age 81 of Crockett, passed away Monday, November 5, 2007 in Winfield Healthcare in Crockett. Mr. Garrett was born August 9, 1926 in Kerrville and had been a resident of Crockett since 1962. Early in his adult life, he was a foreman for the Dixie Pipeline then became a carpenter and cabinet builder. Mr. Garrett retired from the Texas Department of Corrections as a correctional officer then became a teacher of buildings and trades in the Windham School System where he lastly retired. Mr. Garrett was a member of the Sharon Shriners of Tyler, Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, Lothrop Lodge #21, and the Order of Eastern Star. Mr. Garrett was presently serving on the Monroe Crook Board and was a past board member of the East Texas Women's Shelter which he was one of the original founders in Crockett. Mr. Garrett was a member and deacon of the Grace Street Church of Christ. Mr. Garrett was an avid hunter, enjoyed woodworking and loved to refinish antiques. Survivors include his wife Betty Garrett; sons Danny Garrett, of Little Elm, Jay Garrett and wife Rhonda of Centennial, Colo. and Johnny Garrett and wife Donna, of Crockett; daughter Chari Townsend and husband Steven, of Marble Falls; grandchildren Wayne and Meredith Garrett, of The Colony, Jerry and Tammy Garrett, of Platteville, Colo., Jay and Kim Garrett, of Flower Mound, Misty and Brandon Longcrier of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jarrod Garrett of Centennial, Colo., Rachael Allen, John Austin Garrett, all of League City and Angie and John Kandis, of Round Rock; great-grandchildren Kinny and Chelsea Garrett, of Frisco, Evin Garrett, Skylar Garrett, Marissa Garrett, all of The Colony, Brandon and Elizabeth Hutchens, of Colo., Cole and Stone Garrett, of Flower Mound, Meagan Allen–Kandis, of Roundrock, Logan Longcrier, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Briana and Richard Morris, Kiara Hutchens, both of Colo.; great-great-grandchildren Collin and Mason Garrett, of Frisco, Haley Hutchens, Aubrana Branco and Garrett Branco, all of Colo.; brother Jerry Garrett and wife Sue, of Crockett; sisters Dorothy Jones, of Mesquite, Pat McFerron and husband Paul, of Siloam Springs, Ark.; brother-in-law Lynn Barrier, of Crockett; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by his father and mother Wilby and Gladys (DeMasters) Garrett; grandson Darrell Garrett; and great-great-grandson Michael Hutchens. Funeral Services for Mr. Weldon W. Garrett were held Thursday, November 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the Grace Street Church of Christ with Mr. Rick Kelley officiating. Interment followed in the Bynum Cemetery.
