Eugene Frank Hrncir passed away in Estes Park, Colorado on February 1, 2008 at the age of 79 from lymphoma cancer. He was the son of Rudolph and Agnes Hrncir and was born on July 13, 1928 on the family farm near Robstown, Texas. He graduated from Robstown High School in 1945 and farmed northwest of Robstown for 45 years following his service in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean conflict in the early 1950's. He married Thelma Jean Mrazek, also of Robstown, on December 7, 1952. Besides his farming career, he drove a school bus for the Robstown School District for 30 years and received many commendations for his safe driving record. He and Thelma were selected by Texas A&M in 1960 to launch a pilot program in Nueces County raising Yorkshire pigs bred for low fat/high meat and won awards for 2 years in the Best Hog Cut-out competition in the state of Texas. After retiring in the mid 1990's he shared his driving skills transporting guests for the Holiday Inn in Corpus Christi, to and from the local airport. In 2002, he and Thelma moved to Estes Park, Colorado, a long time dream of theirs, referring to the Estes Valley as "living in paradise without dying." After 18 months they felt a need to relocate to Dyersburg, Tennessee to care for 4 grandchildren, returning to Estes Park in January 2007. He was an elder and member of the Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies in Estes Park. He was a long time member of the SPJST Fraternal Society and served on the Board of Directors of SPJST Rest Homes in Taylor and Needville, Texas for 30 years. He volunteered as an Ambassador at the Estes Park Visitors Center where he enjoyed sharing his love and knowledge of the area. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Hrncir of Estes Park, Colorado; 2 sons, Dr. David Hrncir of San Antonio, Texas and Lt. Col. Brent Hrncir of Abilene, Texas; 2 daughters, Dr. Constance Smith of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Angela Henderson of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Wilson Hrncir of Robstown, Texas; 10 grandchildren with one on the way; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Agnes Hrncir and a brother, Oscar Hrncir. Visitation and funeral services were held Feb. 7 & 8 at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home, Corpus Christi, TX. Burial with military honors was held in Robstown Cemetery.
