IN MEMORY OF Thelma E. Hardt of Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Scotchman Living Center in Philip at the age of 85. Thelma Elaine Evans Nieman Hardt was born on a farm June 18,1937 to Louis D. Evans and Mildred A. Burns in Mellette County, South Dakota. She grew up near Mosher and attended the Shaffer School that was built by her Grandpa Jess Burns. The family lived in Winner and Murdo before settling in Pierre. Thelma ran the Red Owl Restaurant in Pierre until it closed. She is survived by her sister; two daughters; son; Seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Marlin Hardt; her parents Louis D. and Mildred A. (Burns) Evans; two sisters Mona Young and Yvonne Kilbourn; three brothers Harold Kilbourn, Harley Evans, and Milton Evans; a son Wade Nieman; a granddaughter Becky Hiatt; and great granddaughter Bethany Schultz. Memorials may be sent to Val Williams PO Box 74 Philip SD 57567 A wake will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2022 at Marso's Lounge 114 W. Dakota Ave. Pierre, SD. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Mediator Cemetery at the Evans plot in Wood, SD.
