Buried among other soldier markers at the cemetery
Elisha "Eli" Jenkins died during the Battle of Pleasant Hill on 9 April 1864. He was born 6 June 1841, the third son of Benjamin J. Jenkins and Francis Rhodes, in Lincoln County, North Carolina. His father passed away sometime before 1849 and is buried in Lincoln County. Francis, along with her three sons, and her parents, Elisha Rhondes and Rachel Dilling, moved the family to Texas, living in Williamson County in 1850. By 1860, Eli married Martha Jane Long in Williamson County. In 1861, they had a son, Benjamin Jackson Jenkins. Francis remarried and had a daughter and the family moved to Runnels County, Texas. There is a stone in the soldier part of this cemetery with the initials E. J. carved on it and we believe this is our Elisha Jenkins.
