Joseph Campbell was born about 1821 in Tennessee [1850 Census]. It is more likely he was born about 1824. [Note 1: This is a good indication that Joseph and Jackson are closely related which has recently been confirmed with Y-DNA]. [Note 2: This Riley Perkins (1819-1880) is the s/o Peter and Elizabeth (Brown) Perkins and the uncle of Eliza (Perkins) Campbell w/o this Joseph Campbell]. Property: 4 Jul 1855 in Whitley County, Kentucky, USA Joseph and his wife Eliza for $700 deeded to Jackson and Elizabeth Campbell 225 acres. Previous date: June 29, 1855. [Whitley County Deed book 4 pages 634 and 635] [Note: This deeds provides some indication that Susan Jane (Campbell) Smith (1831-1908) may be the sister of Joseph Campbell (1824-1859) and Jackson Campbell (1822-1893)]. Death: Bef. 8 April 1859 Joseph Campbell died before April 8, 1859 when Jackson Campbell and Elizabeth (Perkins) Campbell were listed as an administrators on the Sale Bill in Joseph's estate. [Information provided by Carol Golden member # 48200734]. Burial: Bef. 8 April 1859 in Stanfield Cemetery, Lot, Whitley County, Kentucky, USA Joseph "Joe" Campbell was buried in Stanfield Cemetery, Lot, Whitley County, Kentucky. Since Joseph and Eliza both died the same year, it is believed that they are buried next to each other in this small family plot on what was the Sampson Stanfield homestead. It is Eliza (Perkins) Campbell who died in Nov 1859 not Elizabeth (Perkins) Campbell who bore her last child in 1871. So the following quoted information is misleading: ["Stanfield Cemetery in Sandy Flats near Lot and Boston, Ky. Sept 1976. Copied by C. Maynard Cornelius and his sister Shirley Lester." "Campbell, Elizabeth 29 Mar 1830 11 Nov 1859 w/o Jackson; age 29-7-12" "The cemetery site is now being used as a barnyard. Only one stone remains upright and in place, that of Elizabeth Campbell. The stones remaining, including that of Sampson, are piled up under a tree with other rocks that look like a base for a fireplace in an old homeplace." [Whitley Cemetery Books Vol 1 p130]] ["There were only a few headstones left standing (1976). Among those were Elizabeth Campbell, wife of Jackson Campbell, b. 29 Mar 1830, d. 11 Nov 1859 (29 yrs 7 mo. 12 days) William Campbell, son of Jackson and Elizabeth Campbell, b. 18 Dec 1850 - d. 24 July 1851 (age 7 mos. 3 days)" [Hieronymus, Goldie Smith. "Descendants of Sampson Stanfield.." Jan 1978. Arlington, VA: Goldie Smith Hieronymus, May 1981. page 45.]] Probate: 8 April 1859 in Whitley County, Kentucky, USA On April 8, 1859 in Whitley County, Kentucky, Jackson and Elizabeth Campbell became administrators on the estate of Joseph Campbell, deceased. Jackson being the brother of Joseph. The William Perkins family are in Dwelling 736 and Family 729 on page 112 which is noted as the 9th Civil District.] Probate: 23 Aug 1862 in Whitley County, Kentucky, USA William Perkins administrator for daughter, Eliza (Perkins) Campbell, and son-in-law, Joseph Campbell. Appraisal and Settlement dates were the same. [Will book 2, appraisal pages 292 and 294 and settlement same day pages 293 and 295]. Joseph Campbell was the brother of Andrew Jackson Campbell. Joseph Campbell and Andrew Jackson Campbell appear to be the brothers of Susan Jane (Campbell) Smith and possibly Rachel (Campbell) Siler. Susan Jane (Campbell) Smith purchased land from Joseph and Eliza in 1858. Rachel Campbell is residing with Jackson Campbell and his family in the 1850 Census then she marries Alvis Siler in 1851.
