Bio

Gregory Guy Stevens, age 62, of Elk City, KS, passed away August 16th, 2022, at Labette Health in Independence, KS. A memorial celebration of life for Greg will be held in Nebraska at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and sent to Zach Webb Family Funeral Service, 1475 S. 10th, Independence, KS 67301. He was born at Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD, to Marvin and Juliann (Jaixen) Stevens. He graduated from St. Edward High School, St. Edward, NE, in 1978 and attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, playing football for the Cornhuskers before returning to St. Edward to start farming with his family. He married Vicky Cooper of Waverly, Nebraska in December of 1979. The family moved to the area in 2020. After they farmed for a time, Greg spent time as a jack-of-all-trades, from serving as a Deputy Sherriff and Chief of Police to military service, farming, and sales. He settled into a career as a professional truck driver and started his own company, TPNA Express, named for his children, in 1993. He traveled the country for 22 years before retiring from the road in 2015 to manage and grow his company. In 2021, he passed the management of the company to his son, Nathan. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, nature, wildlife, and he and Vicky enjoyed traveling together. He was passionate about life and enjoying every moment. His favorite things included spending time with his family, Hawaii, and working on projects at his acreage, Money Pit Acres. During his life, he touched countless lives and made lifelong friends and connections. He was genuine, selfless, witty, funny, and unfailingly kind. If you knew him your life was richer for it, and the hole he leaves in this world will never be filled. He is survived by his wife, Vicky Stevens, children, and 10 grandchildren of whom he was immensely proud. They are daughter, Tanya Davitt and husband Benjamin, and their children Ethan, Riley, and Lux; son Preston Stevens and wife Kaylee, and their son Beau; son Nathan Stevens and wife Elizabeth and their children, Kaitlyn, Chloe, and Hunter; and daughter, Ariann Stevens and her children, Peyton, Riker, and Ronin Horne; his brother, Randall Stevens and his wife, Beth; and sister, Lorraine Stevens. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Clarice Stevens and William Jaixen and Esther (Arlt) Werner, mother and father, and his brother, Jeffrey.
