Joseph N. Filadelfia Sr., 87, passed away peacefully Monday, April 15, 2013. Joe was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Imperial, Pa., to Teresa and Dominic Filadelfia. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy. He served on a hospital ship in the Pacific during World War II. From the ship he was able to witness the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima. After the war, he married the love of his life, Mary Dodd. They were married 47 years before her death in 2003. They raised four children. He retired from a long service to the federal government. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary; his parents; and his brother, Albert.
