Port Angeles resident Louis Whitmore died of heart failure at age 69. He was born in Shelby, Neb., to Lloyd and Amy Madge Zedicher Whitmore. He served on active duty with U.S. Air Force intelligence in 1954-58. Dr. Whitmore married Betty Lees June 14, 1958. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Northern Colorado, then served as administrator for the University of Alaska before moving to Lincoln, Neb., where he was a college dean and a bank executive. Dr. Whitmore was a volunteer with youth sports programs and the Arthur D. Feiro Marine Center in Port Angeles, and enjoyed hiking trails in the Olympic Mountains. He was a member of Klahhane Hiking Club and Kiwanis. Survivors include his wife; son and daughter-in-law Lt. Col. Scott and Lynn Whitmore; daughter and son-in-law Lexie and Wacek Domaradzki; brothers Bob and Howard Whitmore; and six grandchildren. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles
