George Bricka came to Driscoll Ridge from Cincinnati, Ohio in 1879 when he was 19 years old. His reason for coming here was the hope of curing consumption, which we now call tuberculosis or TB. When a post office for the local settlers was located in a section of his house, his place was soon called "Brickaville." The mail was brought to Brickaville by the stagecoach operating between Troy and Kendrick. Upper American and Driscoll Ridges received their mail from here between 1887 and 1894. George Bricka married Melvina Senter from Illinois, soon after coming West. They had a daughter, Eunice, born in 1891. Mr. Bricka was one of the most loved pioneer people as evidenced from the testimonials of the people in the later generations. He was often called when illness or death struck a family. He "laid out" many of the pioneers. He enjoyed weaving and wove most of the rugs that the families had in the early days. He wove rugs for Mrs. Joe Driscoll and Mrs. Frank Benscotter. The women in those days padded their woven rags by putting a layer of straw under the rugs and tacking the edge down around the room over the loose straw mat. Mr. Brick passed away in 1941. He was Viola Helm's grandfather. They Came To A Ridge by Ann Nilsson Driscoll 1970
