Bio

Geraldine Smith May 24, 1934 - July 13, 2022 (age 88) Geraldine Griffiths Smith, 88, passed away on July 13, 2022 at the Beaver Long Term Care Center in Beaver, Utah. Jerry was born on May 24, 1934, the second child of Warren and Treva Griffiths. She grew up on a farm in the small farm community south of Beaver known as Jackson County. She rode her horse or roller skated to Beaver to attend elementary school and high school. After graduating from Beaver High School, Jerry married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Leroy Smith on August 22, 1952. They eventually had 4 children, 3 girls and a boy. Throughout her life, Jerry was sort of a Jill of all trades. She learned very young to work hard as a farmer's daughter and was capable of all the chores that needed to be done. After getting married, she worked for several years at the Dry Cleaners. She was a skilled seamstress and worked for many years at the Beaver Sewing Plant. Her favorite job was the twenty plus years she spent at Mike's Food Town doing the ordering and stocking shelves. But most of all, she enjoyed visiting with everyone that came in to shop. She especially loved visiting and working with the high school kids that came to work after school. They kept her up on the goings on around campus and with the sports teams. She loved sports. Music was another love of Jerry's life. She played the piano very well and played the clarinet in the school band. She would often play the piano and Ralph and the girls would join in to sing a song or two. Ralph and Jerry loved to dance and they enjoyed all the holiday dances held in the community. Jerry was an outside girl and passed that love on to her children. She loved a nice yard and having pretty flowers. She had a green thumb and grew beautiful roses. Even her house plants grew like weeds! Having 3 girls made her sewing skills come to be a great advantage. She sewed pretty much everything they wore on her treadle sewing machine. She always said "It had the nicest stitch." She taught her daughters to sew along the way. She also enjoyed embroidery work and made some beautiful things. After Jerry retired, she became an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She came to enjoy learning the history of the area and the stories of their lives. She gained a great appreciation for her genealogy and the work involved in gathering it. Geraldine is survived by her children Christy (Ralph) Myers, Fillmore; Kari (Garth) Draper, Beaver; Peggy (Bruce) Bundy, St. George; and sister Vickie Lynn Griffiths Yardley, Las Vegas. She had 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Leroy Smith, her son, Mitchell Blair Smith, her grandson, Trevor Blair Smith, and 3 brothers, Leo Dell, DeVon, and Larry Griffiths. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00am at Southern Utah Mortuary (195 N 200 W) in Beaver, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:30am. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. www.mortuary.org.
