Bio

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother Ralph Herzel Bateman passed away peacefully January 22, 2008. Ralph was born April 19, 1927 in Lehi, Utah to David Bernell and Hazel Peck Bateman. His parents taught him, his three brothers and one sister the value of hard work and education as they worked their ranch in Lehi. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, Ralph attended Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting & Business. He later earned a Master's Degree in Education from Utah State University. While attending BYU, Ralph met his sweetheart, Dorene Anderson. They were married October 13, 1955 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Together they raised four children. Ralph was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. He was a beloved Bishop, and also served as High Priest Group Leader, Gospel Doctrine Instructor, and High Counselor. Ralph also served as an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden LDS Temple for 16 years. An educator, Ralph taught elementary school for 30 years, primarily in Roy. He enjoyed the outdoors, and could be found walking, riding his motorcycle, or taking his family on ATV trips to the sand dunes. He provided countless hours of joy and memories to his family. His loving, generous example will live on in the lives of those who love him. Ralph is survived by his eternal companion, Dorene; children Lori Green, Roy; Steven (Kathy), Centerville; Jody (Dale) Jones, Roy; Mark (Terri), Bountiful; 15 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; Sister LaVee (Jay) Barnhart; Brothers LaVar (Lornell), Kenneth, Don (May).
