CSA enlistment 5 Jul 1862 Camp Reeves, Grayson Co., TX;CSA service Pvt., Co. B, Martin's Regt. TX Cav. (5th TX Partisan Rangers - Film Number M227 roll 31), Ganoe's Brigade with brothers William J. and Joseph F. ---- According to Geneva (Sewell) Parrish (1917-2009) James Newton Rose went out to search for his son, William Maridy Rose, who was lost. James fell ill because of the search and died. As a child, William felt very guilty about his father's death. ---- Possibly story regarding his death: Went out (hunting for game or trying to find lost child) and was never seen alive again. His remains were found months later. ---- 20070529 Story related by Lewis Elliott Adams, Rockwall, TX, 75087: "The story that Mom remembered about James N Rose was that he went hunting and never returned. Several years later a skeleton was found in an arrow lodged in it in the area where he had gone to hunt and was somehow identified as being his."
