Source: Daily Ardmoreite Funeral services for Max Ray Monroe, 47, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at St. Mary's Catholic Church conducted by the Rev. Louis Lamb and the Rev. Ron Elmore. Burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada, Okla. Max, the son of Orville and Joyce Jenkins Monroe, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in the local hospital after a sudden illness. He was born Sept. 19, 1952, at Duncan, and had lived here since 1981, coming from Ada. He and Laurel Harris Campbell were married Aug. 3, 1996, at Ardmore. Max grew up in Tulsa, was a graduate of Edison High School and attended Northeast Oklahoma University. He was co-owner of Rebel Drilling Company and the petroleum oil operations in Louisiana until his retirement from the oil business in 1996. A member of the Elks BPOE Lodge, he enjoyed his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was a member of the American Iron Riders of Southern Oklahoma. He owned a speed boat and was a member of the pit crew for Performance Marine. He also owned a dragster and was a member of the Ardmore Raceway. Survivors include his wife, Laurel; three sons, Dustin Monroe, Ian Campbell and Grayson Campbell, all of the home; his father and wife, Orville and Wanda Monroe, Longview, Texas; his mother, Joyce Monroe, Ardmore; a sister, Theresa Stout, New London, Texas; grandmother, Margaret Jenkins; and aunt, Evelyn Pierce of Albuquerque, N.M. Serving as bearers will be Kevin Potter, Rick Campbell, Jimmy Wright, Jim Rose, Brian Harris and Wayne Brown. Honorary bearers will be Artie Meek, Gary Snow, Jerry Ford, Wendall Ritchie and Steven Harris. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Heart Disease. Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home will direct services.
