Springtown--Mildred Mae Morris Cherry, 81, a retired classified sales representative and homemaker, died Friday, Aug 17, 2001 in Fort Worth. Funeral: 2 pm Monday at First Baptist Church of Cottondale in Wise County. Burial: Springtown City Cemetery, Springtown. Visitation: 5 to 8 pm. Sunday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Mildred Morris Cherry was born Oct 28, 1919 in Lone Wolf, Okla. and grew up in Chickasha, Okla. She quit school after the seventh grade to help her mother, Alpha Dickenson Morris, raise her six brothers and sisters during the Depression years. Mildred married John Harrison Cherry from Keyport, NJ, Aug 23, 1943 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC John and Mildred Cherry were a few days from celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary. To this union were born two daughters and two sons. To prepare herself for life and the ministry alongside her husband she attended the Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth under the ministry of Dr. J. Frank Norris from 1947 through 1951. She cherished God's Holy Word and had memorized over 500 Bible verses and chapters during her life. In addition to balancing her roles as a faithful servant of God, loving wife, mother, friend and homemaker, she was an employee of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Classified Dept. where she received many honors and rewards for her outstanding service of 23 years.
