NICHOLAS HIX "N.H." NEWTON was the son of Nicholas Hill Newton and Mrs. Sarah Jane (Hix) Newton Loden. He was the husband of Mrs. Laura (Waldrep) Newton whom he married on May 13, 1869 in Polk County, Texas. To their union, 8 children were born. Their known children were --- S.A. Newton Mary Bell Newton Maggie "Lizzie" Elizabeth Newton Edward Bush Newton By the summer of 1900, only 4 of their children were still living. As well, by the spring of 1910, only 3 of their children were still living. The names of their predeceased children are yet to be known. Mr. Newton preceded his wife in death. Upon his passing, he was laid to rest on the grounds of Scottsville Cemetery in Marshall. Burial arrangements were managed by the undertakers at Rains & Herndon Funeral Home in Marshall. William Hayward Newton II, of Marshall, Texas, was the informant on the death certificate.
