Elsie F. Witzel, 88, of Brainard, died Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Butler County Health Care Center in David City. Services 2 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2008 at Brainard United Methodist Church, Brainard, Nebraska. Burial in the David City Cemetery. Elsie was born Feb. 15, 1919 to Edward and Clara (Pojar) Stanek at Howells, Nebraska. She graduated from Prague High School in 1937. She married Walter W. Witzel Jan. 4, 1944 at Papillion, Nebraska. They farmed most of their married lives. She was a member of the Brainard United Methodist Church. She loved to garden, especially working with flowers, bake, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, making most of the clothes that the family wore. She especially enjoyed butterflies and her life on the farm. Survivors include her sons: John (Cheryl) of Pleasant Dale; Leo (Kathy) of Brainard; Edward of Brainard; Paul (Lori) of Cotopaxi, CO; Daughters: Mary Alice Witzel of Phoenix, AZ; Ramona Grant of Glendale, AZ. One brother: Elvin Stanek of David City; 8 Grandchildren and 3 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989; two brothers; John and Edwin Stanek, sister: Alice Rerucha; and granddaughter: Jennifer Grant.
