Joseph D. "Joe" Cada, 83, of Schuyler, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Schuyler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler with the Revs. Carl Zoucha and Gerald Leise officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday with a 7 p.m. rosary at the parish and 8:30-10 a.m. Friday at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler. Committal with military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A lunch will be held in the church hall. Joseph Dean Cada was born Oct. 13, 1930, in Schuyler at Kolouch Hospital to Joseph and Anna (Klimes) Cada. He started school at the age of 4, speaking only Czech and was told to learn English very quickly. He skipped kindergarten and later the eighth grade, entering high school at the age of 11. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1946. Joe entered the United States Army in 1952 and played the tuba in the 65th Army Band until his discharge in 1954. On April 7, 1956, he married Roseann Divis at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Schuyler. Joe farmed with his father and played in several local groups. Joe and Roseann moved to Schuyler in 1969 and operated the Coast to Coast Store for 11 years. Joe was a lifelong musician, having played for over 50 bands over the years. Among those groups with which he worked were Bobby Mills Band, Solid 8, Duffy Belohrad, El Mills, Dick Wickman, Eddie Janak, Paul Moorhead, Louis Pelan, Dean Hansen, Al Grebenick, Joe Lukesh, Mort Wells, the Six Fat Dutchman, Whoopee John, Jim Bochnicek and Moostache Joe. He was inducted in the Sokol Omaha Polka Hall of Fame on Sept. 16, 2001. Joe was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church and served on the Church Council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Schuyler American Legion. He also operated Cada Commodities in Columbus for several years and retired from that in May, 2014. Joe is survived by his wife, Roseann Cada of Schuyler; one daughter, Carolyn (John) Peers of Omaha; son-in-law, Robert Wadzinski of Newton, Iowa; granddaughters, Krysta and Sarah Peers and Katie and Kristine Wadzinski; grandsons, Ross and Reid Wadzinski; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Cada; and daughter, Mary Wadzinski on April 12, 2014.
