Bio
Katherine Marie Martinets (Herbst), 78, passed away on Thursday, May 19th, after a long struggle with multiple health issues. Katherine was born December 9, 1943 in Fullerton, California to Walter and Verna Herbst. Katherine was an avid reader and loved school. She graduated high school when she was 17 and dreamed of going to Medical School. While she was working to save up for school she met Patrick Martinets and after three short weeks of courting, married him on November 21, 1964. Soon after, Kathy and Patrick made the move to Texas, living in Fort Worth, Austin, and eventually settling in Round Rock where they raised their four children along with a variety of farm animals. She was very involved in 4-H horse and livestock shows and would often spend her weekends watching her children show their animals. When she became an empty-nester, Kathy expanded her horsemanship skills and learned English and jumping. She found great pleasure in riding and caring for horses. Kathy enjoyed a long and successful career as a database administrator and computer programmer for the State of Texas Comptroller's office and BMC Software. After joining Faith Baptist Church, Kathy found her true best friend Irene Turner. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Martinets, her two siblings Paul Herbst and Lynda Mallamace, and her parents Walter Herbst and Verna Herbst. Kathy is survived by her four children Mark Martinets, Leigh-Anna Martinets (Steve Orrell), Jason Martinets, and Cynthia Bode (Zane); her grandchildren Taylor Bode, Hannah Bode, and Asa Martinets; her nieces and nephews Peter Martinets (Carrie), Peggy Daily (Eric), Bret Martinets (Tonya), Julie Edwards (Taylor), David Cocchiara (Stephanie), Raymond Mallamace, her aunt Mireille Herbst, her sister-in-law Judy Herbst, her cousin Diana Herbst and several grand nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:00am to 10:00am on Monday, May 23 at Faith Baptist Church, 3625 Gattis School Rd, Round Rock, TX. Funeral services will follow at 10:00am and interment will be in Palm Valley Cemetery. The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and their staff who lovingly cared for Kathy over the years, particularly Elbert David, M.D., Balijepalli Netaji, M.D., Laura Gilbey, M.D. and Michael Grad, M.D. She felt very well cared for by these special people.
