Mary Jane Henning, 77, passed away May 18, 2022, at The Cottages at Shawnee, Shawnee, KS. She was born April 27, 1945, in Wichita, KS, to Marvin Francis and Matilda Mary (Farmer) Harter. Mary Jane married her husband Butch on January 23, 1965, in Wichita, KS. They took up roots in Hutchinson, KS, where they raised their family. Mary Jane was a devout Catholic and was very active in their church and community. She was an accomplished artist. You could always find her painting, felting wool, or sewing. Some annual favorites included handcrafted Christmas ornaments and a hand painted wooden 'H' that was handed out to Hutchinson High graduates. She was a skilled cook, loved to bake, garden, and 'SHOP'. Mary Jane loved her family and was the happiest when she was alongside her husband Butch. They loved watching their boys and grandkids excel at sports. She also loved spending time with her grandkids building fairy houses, looking for heart-shaped rocks, painting 'dude' rocks, or just taking in nature. Mary Jane's devotion to her faith, family, and friends never left her memory and she could always recall every detail when reminiscing about the past. She had a quirky sense of humor and was generous and genuine. Mary Jane was very proud to be a Harter and had a great love for her mom, dad and siblings. She was always telling stories about her siblings and their families, and loved road tripping to Nebraska to see extended family.
