Donald was born on August 25, 1934 to Gustav and Hilda (Lilienthal) Frauen in Grand Island. Don grew up in Grand Island, and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. Don grew up showing livestock for 4-H, which was passed down to his kids and grandkids. Following his graduation, he began farming with his father. On August 13, 1960 Don was united in marriage to Patricia Beth Boyer at the Presbyterian Church in Hastings. They moved their family to a farm near St. Libory where Don farmed, raised hogs and dairy cattle. In 1978 they sold their dairy cattle and began raising beef cattle, as well as continuing to farm. For many years Don worked for the ASCS office measuring grain bins. He lived on the farm until recently when his health no longer allowed him to. He was always a farmer, and continued to work with his cattle and farm until the very end. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, visits with friends and neighbors, playing cards, hunting, trapping, shooting trap, and attending the State Trappers Conventions. He was also a seed corn dealer for many years. He was a member of the Archer Zion United Methodist Church, Extension Board, Merrick County and Loup-Platte Pork Producers, several state Dairy Boards, and was on the Extension Board for several years. Those left to cherish his memory are his children; Kelly Ball of Columbus, Eric (Diane) Frauen of Grand Island, Kurt (Jolene) Frauen of Palmer, and Brent (Stacey) Frauen of Lexington, his grandchildren; Nicole (Sean) Wetgen, Kayla (Andrew) Gehring, Erica (Matt) Douglass, and Amber (Phillip) Johnson, and 6 great-grandchildren.
