Betty Ruth (Stevens) Ferris Born: July 23, 1922 in Rock Falls, IL Died: February 14, 2022 in Grapevine, TX There are too few trees growing in the forest to supply enough paper upon which to pen the lifetime exploits, endeavors and accomplishments of Betty Ruth Ferris ( nee Stevens), aged 99. She passed away peacefully in Grapevine, Texas on Monday, February 14, 2022. Betty was a scholar, the valedictorian of the Rock Falls High School class of 1940. She was an active sports enthusiast, a compassionate social worker for Catholic Charities in the 1960's and '70's with a special ability at successfully placing newborns for adoption. Most of all though, she was a devoted wife who maintained a loving home environment for her ever-growing family, instilling in her children the value of academics, exercise and a deep concern for others. Not merely one to cheer from the sidelines, at the slightest invitation she joined her young, and not so young, children as they rode bikes, hiked, ice and roller skated, played tennis, tetherball, badminton, basketball, baseball and her particular area of expertise, croquet. Once her youngest entered school she began balancing household duties with her desire to continue her formal education. Long before online learning was even possible she enrolled in a unique university program which featured home study with periodic on-campus weekends. In 1974, at age 52, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University. Her signature line for the past forty years was, "You'll miss me when I am gone." She was right. Survivors include, two daughters; three sons and their wives; one 'adopted' son; a sister in law; 10 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dana and Mayme Captola Stevens; her husband and dance partner of 57 years, John, Dr. Jack, Ferris;, one daughter, Marcia Jean ; a granddaughter, Madi 'Bubbles' Ferris, Bulverde, TX and six brothers and sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling, Illinois on Saturday, May 14, 2022 a 1:00 p.m. Sauk Valley News (Dixon, IL) - Apr. 20, 2022
