***NOTE**** original Obituary said Ross died April 13, but his daughter said it was the 12th. Ross Sterling Neill, age 91, of Grapeland passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2022, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Humble, Texas. Ross was born June 22, 1930, in Athens, Texas to parents, William Stephen Neill and Myrtle Ree Gandy Neill. He served on the police department as Chief of Police in LaPorte and Gatesville also served on the Midland, Giddings, and Angleton Police Departments. Ross served to "protect and defend" from 1955 to 1969 and surrendered to ministry in 1971 and graduated from the Baptist Institute and Seminary in Henderson, Texas. He served as pastor of several American Baptist Association churches throughout the years. Ross is survived by wife, Pattie Neill of Grapeland; children: Carolyn Ann Fox of Tyler, Ross Oran Neill of Henderson, Joe Ross Neill of Henderson; step-children, Linda Kay Cunningham of Coolidge, Gary Douglas Smith of Henderson, Kevin Pyle of Humble, Nikki Gaspard of Houston; grandchildren, Sonya Lynn Fox, Cynthia Michelle Aarant, Trampas Wade Freeman, Samantha Lynn Chapman, Vivan Ross Chapman, Joseph (Joey) Edgar Chapman, Skye Neill Baggett, Katrina Sims, Teddy Ray Sims, Sherrie Lynn Cunningham, Stephanie Smith, Stephen Smith; great-grandchildren, Cody Shiloh Edwards, Justin Scott Powell, Dakota Ray Aarant, Bridgette Reanne March, Tyler Ross Freeman, Jagger Wayne Bay, Alivia Grace Freeman, Oliver Ross Baggett, Violet Mae Baggett, Magnolia Sue Baggett; sister, Wilma Ann Phillips. He was preceded in death by wife, Wanda Lou Patterson Neill; daughter, Rose Marie Chapman; brother, Oran Elbert Neill. Funeral services for Ross Sterling Neill will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2022 in the Grapeland Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Albert Munsinger officiating. Interment to follow at the Parker Cemetery.
