Bio

Elliott F. Koehn joined his Heavenly father, his parents, his beloved wife and many friends and family members on March 31, 2022 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Elliott was born on September 11, 1934, the first child of Edwin and Erna (Wienken) Koehn. His sister, Nelda, would soon follow. Elliott was born near Weimar, Texas on the family farm. Just a few years later, this land served as a US military installation during World War 2 and in 1992 was honored by the State of Texas for being in continuous ownership by the same family for over a century. Elliott attended school in New Bielau and graduated Weimar High School in 1953. Elliott was active in athletics and the Future Farmers of America. While at Weimar High, Elliott met Ava Hill, a 'new girl' that had recently moved to Weimar. This young lady would become Elliott's wife on July 12, 1958, and they would share two children (Derck and Dalinda) and 57 years of marriage before her passing in 2015. After high school, Elliott attended the University of Texas at Austin, and graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in 1957. After graduation from college, Elliott worked for Texas Instruments in Dallas and in Houston, overseeing international purchasing for the company. Upon retirement from Texas Instruments, Elliott and his family moved back to Weimar, where Elliott worked in business operations for Herder Truck Lines. Later, Elliott enjoyed doing custom hay work in the Weimar area. Elliott's true calling lay in his volunteering and serving the community. Elliott became an Emergency Medical Technician and volunteered with the Colorado County Emergency Medical Services for many years. Elliott was an active member of the Lion's Club in Weimar, his church (Weimar United Church), and he and Ava provided scholarships for worthy graduates in the Weimar and Schulenburg school districts. Elliott's passion for community service was exemplified in his work within the Masonic lodge. Elliott was a 32nd degree Freemason, a member of Weimar Lodge #423, and the Arabia Shrine Temple in Houston. Elliott had been a Master Mason for 57 years and a member of the Shrine for 40 years. In 2012, the Masonic Lodge presented Elliott with Golden Trowel Award, the 'highest award the lodge can bestow upon an individual member'. Elliott truly enjoyed his community and its members. He supported many, many community events throughout the years, and could be found at school functions, celebrations, parades, church picnics, and he also provided transportation for people to Houston and Austin for hospital visitation and doctors' appointments. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Weimar United Church. Burial to follow at Weimar Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Elliott's service to the community, the family suggests that any memorial donations be made to the Weimar United Church, the Shriners Hospitals, Weimar Lion's Club or a charity of one's choice.
