Bio

Cheryl S. Franssen, 71, of Callaway, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln from complications resulting from COVID. She was born on December 5, 1950 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Richard "Dick" Francis and Hazel Dale (Smith) Kapustka. Cheryl attended public schools in Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1969. She then attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island and upon graduating in 1975 she began working at Callaway District Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Cheryl was united in marriage to Larry Franssen on February 14, 1976 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway. Two children were blessed to this union. The family make their home in Callaway. Throughout her years of nursing her care and compassion impacted the lives of many. Cheryl retired at the end of 2019. Cheryl was a lover of animals, she enjoyed watching birds and the company of countless pets over the years. She also enjoyed plants and gardening, reading, the Cornhuskers, Green Bay Packers and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter. She is survived by her husband, Larry of Callaway; her two children, one granddaughter, three sisters-in-law, her fur buddy, Kaley; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her brother, Gary; in-laws, Jerry Moheng, Jim Franssen, Wayne Franssen, Dale (Cheryl) Franssen and Ruth (Dick) Overgard. A Memorial Mass will be on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway with Father Thomas Gudipalli, officiating. The Mass will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page. A Memorial Book Signing will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 6-7 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway.
