Wife of LT COL Anton Paul Hajek US Air Force Barbara Ann Hajek December 11, 1930 - March 3, 2022 Barbara Ann Hajek, age 91, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, in San Antonio, TX. She was born December 11, 1930, to Aleen Chavez and Otto Richter in San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, Anton Paul Hajek Jr., her grandson Anton Paul Hajek IV, her sisters Christina Engals, Rosalie Bolner and brother Otto Richter Jr. Barbara is survived by her children, her granddaughter, her sister Joan, brother Tom, and numerous nieces and nephews. Both of her parents' families are part of the history of San Antonio. Her father's family founded Richter's Butter Krust Bakeries in 1882. Many residents of San Antonio will recall Safety Sally at the school crosswalks and the iconic Butter Krust billboard with the spinning slices of bread. A tradition for grade school children was a school field trip to the Butter Krust Bakery on Broadway, where each child received a ruler, pencil and a warm slice of buttered bread at the end of the tour. Her mother, Aleen Chavez Richter, is a direct descendant of Canary Island families, who arrived in 1731, at the Presidio de San Antonio de Bejar. Barbara is a member of the Canary Islanders. Her love affair for the Texas Coast began as a child when the family moved to Corpus Christi for the opening of the Corpus Butter Krust Bakery. She spent her honeymoon in Corpus Christi. After marrying Anton, the family vacationed every summer at Corpus Christi and later at Port Aransas. Music was part of her childhood. Her mother played the piano, and her father played the violin. Barbara played both the piano and cello. She loved to sing and performed at many local events including her church. She also loved art and dabbled in ceramics and painting during her high school years. Barbara met her future husband at a dance. They later married in 1951 and moved to England where Anton was stationed. While there, they traveled to several nearby countries. When they returned to San Antonio they continued to travel. They visited all 50 states in the US, 39 countries and 7 Canadian Provinces. She attended St. Gerard's Catholic School, St. Mary's High School and Our Lady of the Lake University. She was a member of Kappa Sigma Phi Sorority, Tuesday Musical Club, Sultanas de Bexar, Hidden Forest Garden Club, St. Monica's Guild, St. Patrick's Holy Family Guild and the Conservation Society of San Antonio. While a member of the Conservation Society she oversaw a new food booth, Tacos de Marsico, at NIOSA. Our mother was born at a time when women became wives and mothers. Our mom excelled at both. Not knowing how to cook when she arrived in England, she made sure every child learned to cook. We learned from her example how to throw fabulous parties, to appreciate art, music, the adventure of travel, and enjoying life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer's Association. Porter Loring Mortuary
