Source: Daily Ardmoreite WILSON -- Services for Esther Pearl Walker Finley, 90, lifelong Wilson resident, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ash Street Church of Christ with the Rev. Alan Eck officiating. Interment will follow in Hewitt Cemetery. Born Dec. 13, 1908, at Oil City to James Monroe and Annie Holland Burton Walker, she died Dec. 19, 1998, in Ardmore. The former Esther Pearl Walker was reared in the Wheeler-Healdton areas where she attended school. She and Wylie Clifford Finley were married Nov. 7, 1926, at Wilson. They lived in several other towns while Wylie worked in the oifields, but always called Wilson home. In 1929, they returned to Wilson to remain. Esther was employed by several of the dry goods stores in Wilson, including Brimer's and Mattry's. Together, she and Wylie owned and operated a produce, feed and grocery on North Rotary for 18 years. In 1956, they built a cafe next door to the Produce and Grocery which they operated for 10 years. Starting in 1936, Esther began cooking for the Wilson Rotary Club. Even when employed by others, she took off on Tuesdays to be there for her "boys," always serving home fried chicken, a span of 62 years which only ended last March. Esther also worked for Ron and Joy Lynn Alexander at Alexander Funeral Home since 1978. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Ash Street Church of Christ since she obeyed the gospel in 1924. Along with being active in so many areas, she had an active membership in the American Legion Auxiliary, Sew & Sew Club, Stitch-A-Way and Retired Senior Volunteers Program. She is survived by two sons, Donald Ray, Oklahoma City, and Jerry D., Sun City Center, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wylie C. Finley, on June 19, 1978; a son, Delbert Lynn Finley, in 1928, her twin brother, Lester Earl Walker, in 1935; three other brothers, Clarence, Arvie and Jessie Walker; two sisters, Lavada Cox, in 1979, and Lou Johnson, in 1988. Bearers will be grandsons Larry, Alan, Jerry L., Mike and Mark Finley and grandsons-in-law Perry Robertson, Jim Laschober and Pete Young. Honorary bearers will be Malcolm Tudor, Leslie "Bull" Watson, Charlie Steele, Wayne Russell, Bo Ward, E.L. Loving, Bob Brown, Glenn Keefer, Don Morue, J.C. Muncy, Grady Worsham, L.C. Loving, and all the Wilson and Ardmore Rotarians. Alexander Funeral Home is in charge of services.
