Bio

Charline Neel of San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, while in the presence and comfort of her family. She joins her beloved George in heaven, along with other loved ones who preceded her in death. Charline was born July 25, 1927, to Charles and Bessie Moreland in San Angelo, where she would live most of her life. She married George Neel on June 2, 1957, and worked locally for GTE for the next 37 years. Charline and George lived and shared their love for 40-plus years until his passing in July 1998. Charline lived a full life, filled by sharing her time and love with family and friends. She was an award-winning artist and painter who would often "look up" and draw inspiration from the many visual spectacles of the Great State of Texas where she traveled through-out, taking inspiration from the beauty and splendor of Big Bend National Park, Leakey, Texas, the Frio River, Christoval, the beaches of the Gulf Coast, the Hill Country, and seasonal blue bonnets of East Texas. She would also "look down" so as to not miss a unique seashell, or piece of driftwood with "character," or a beautiful rock that would look great in her backyard. She appreciated the nature of things and respected all of God's living creatures. Her home was always filled with antique items and dolls. She had an appreciation for the simple build of things that stood the test of time and was often on the hunt for the next piece of furniture, fixture, or display that reminded her of childhood or of a special time in her life. There was not an antique store, mall, or flea market that did not get excited to see her walk by. First Mondays in Canton were like a national holiday where she and her daughters and sisters would spend days - yes days - laughing, wearing funny hats, eating goodness knows what, and just enjoying the Texas size of it all. It was quite a thing to see the car-load full of "treasures" on their trip home, things that they "just had to have." Charline ALWAYS had time for a grandchild and would open her home during the summer(s) to host her grandkids from far and wide for weeks at a time. Time was filled making home-made ice cream; trips to the gulf coast for a day of fishing followed by the best grandma's fried shrimp in the entire world; and tubing trips down the Frio River, where she would pick them up at the end with a great meal and big smile. Charline Neel loved – simply loved poodles and if one was lucky enough to call her mom, they were set for life. Charline was preceded in death by her son, Randy Lichnovsky; and her husband, George. She is survived by daughters, Judy Lanzafame, Ruth Lichnovsky, and Lisa Goetz; sister, Patsy Hout; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She will be missed by all of them. A viewing for Charline will be held at Johnsons Funeral Home in San Angelo on Monday, February 21, 2022, from 10 am - noon, followed by a 2 pm graveside ceremony and burial at LawnHaven.
