Bio

J.D. Tom Hill, age 74, of Blackfoot, Texas, passed away on February 9, 2022, in Alba, Texas. He was born on November 16, 1947, in Palestine, Texas, to parents W.A. Pete Hill and Lily Bay Gatewood Hill. Tom graduated from Cayuga High School in 1966 and attended Tyler Junior College on a basketball scholarship, playing for legendary Coach Floyd Wagstaff. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University in 1970 and taught Agriculture Science for many years, 20 of which were at Palestine High School. Tom had a gift for building barbecue pits and trailers and loved cooking for co-workers, students, friends, and family over the years. He was a hardworking cattle rancher, farmer, and provider for his family. Tom volunteered countless hours for the Anderson County Youth Livestock Show Association, Lions Club, and was a founding member of the Anderson County Go-Texan Program, serving as the district chairman for many years. He was also a Lifetime Committeeman with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Tom also loved his family, especially his grandkids. The time spent riding horses, tractors, and side-by-sides with his grandchildren at the ranch was the most cherished and memorable years of his life. He shared his love of fishing and hunting with them, and loved attending ballgames and competitions. He is survived by his best friend and love of his life, Suzy Jenkins Hill; sons Clint Hill and wife Kim, and Troy Hood and wife Sharon; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Jim Duncan; brother Mark Hill and wife Desiree; grandchildren Mason Hood, Kortlyn Hill, Kesli Hill, and Cooper Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
