Bio

Killis is the son of James Henry & Alma (Sanders) Winfrey. He married Mollie F. Wilson on December 23, 1913 in Carroll County, Missouri. Mrs. K. H. Winfrey died at her home four miles southeast of Wakenda, Saturday morning, Nov. 16, after a week's illness of influenza. Mrs. Winfrey's maiden name was Mollie Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Wilson, and was born near Riverside Church, Sep.12, 1893, and was 25 years, 2 months, and 2 days old at the time of her death. On Dec. 3, 1913, she was married to Killis R. Winfrey. Two children were born to this union. Nellie Eveline, 4 years, and Cora Kathrine, age 2 years and 9 months old. Mrs. Winfrey was well known and highly respected in this vicinity in which she spent her entire life. She was a faithful wife and a kind and affectionate mother. Funeral services were held Monday at the Walnut Grove school house, conducted by the Rev. W. E. Ballenger, of Carrollton, and the body was laid to rest in the Walnut Grove cemetery near by. The youngest daughter, Cora Kathrine, age 2 years 1 month, 29 days, died Monday, of the same disease, and was buried Tuesday, by the side of her mother. Killis R. Winfrey, husband and father of this family, died at 10 o'clock, Wednesday morning at his home 4 miles southeast of Wakenda, age, about 25 years. He was born and raised in this immediate vicinity, and was the eldest son of W. H. Winfrey. "Tuge" was a splendid young man. We have had dealings with him in a business way over the past 4 years, and have found him to be honest and upright in all of his dealings. He was industrious, frugal, and prosperous in life. The sudden taking away of three of this family in a period of four days has cast a shadow of gloom over the entire neighborhood. Just three weeks ago, a younger brother of this young man was buried. Our heart goes out in the deepest of sympathy for the parents and relatives of this unfortunate family. No arrangements have yet been made for the funeral of the father
